The goal of this text is to present the main dimensions of the experience of ethnic exclusion in a group of people awaiting refugee status in Poland. We attempt to show that it is not only ethnocultural differences that lead to their exclusion, as their very situation and legal status are deciding factors. Other factors contributing to exclusion are a lack of financial resources allotted to refugees to support themselves and their families, difficulties in access to legal work, and the process of "incapacitation" (loss of independence and control over one's own life). These problems indicate the need for assistance from the government and nongovernmental organizations from the moment they arrive at refugee centers (particularly "pre-integration"), which can facilitate successful integration into Polish society
