Developing an autonomous social science has long been a central concern of African scholarship. This implies a need to redirect the interests of scholars to issues that matter for postcolonial society and to contribute to the renewal of knowledge about African societies. The globalization of scholarly publishing has affected local-autonomous social sciences in Africa, especially due to an emphasis on international publishing (in this case, Western journals) in the past decade. This article is a comparative study of academic publishing in the social sciences in Burkina Faso and Nigeria, aimed at examining the glocal dimension of globalized scholarship among social scientists in the two countries. The study examines the scholarly research and dissemination regulations, the glocal reality of international publishing regulations, and attempts aimed at advancing local journals in the global context
