  • Stratified Pit Features at the Presbytère de l'Ancienne‐Lorette (CeEu‐11) and the Fort Odanak (CaFe‐7) Sites in Québec, Canada

Open Access•Sarah Robert, Allison Bain et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2026

A geoarcheological study of two large, stratified Indigenous pit features discovered at two Jesuit mission sites in Québec (Canada) was carried out to offer a detailed documentation of their contents and better understand their use over time. One of the pits is a 17th c. Wendat (Huron‐Wendat) feature discovered at the Presbytère‐de‐L'Ancienne‐Lorette (CeEu‐11) site in L'Ancienne‐Lorette, which was occupied by the Notre‐Dame‐de‐Lorette mission bet…

  • W8banaki Subsistence Patterns During the 18th and 19th Centuries at the Fort Odanak Site, Québec, Canada

    Sarah A Robert, Sarah Robert et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2026•References: 26

Built in the early eighteenth century on the banks of the Saint-François River (Québec, QC, Canada), the fortified Jesuit mission of Saint-François-de-Sales was an important W8banaki centre during the colonial period. Between 2010 and 2021, archaeological excavations conducted by the W8banaki Nation led to the discovery of the mission's remains at the Fort Odanak site (CaFe-7) in the historical centre of the village of Odanak. They revealed numer…

  • The Sihailongwan Maar Lake, northeastern China as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Yongming Han, Zhaolong An et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 65

Sihailongwan Maar Lake, located in Northeast China, is a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for demarcation of the Anthropocene. The lake's varved sediments are formed by alternating allogenic atmospheric inputs and authigenic lake processes and store a record of environmental and human impacts at a continental-global scale. Varve counting and radiometric dating provided a precise annual-resolution sediment chronology f…

  • The Śnieżka peatland as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Barbara Fiałkiewicz-Kozieł, Edyta Łokas et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 5•References: 107

The subalpine, atmospherically fed Śnieżka peatland, located in the Polish part of the Sudetes, is one of the nominated candidates for the GSSP of the Anthropocene. Data from two profiles, Sn1 (2012) and Sn0 (2020), from this site are critical for distinguishing the proposed epoch, while an additional core Sn2 is presented to support main evidence. The Sn0 archive contains a wide array of critical markers such as plutonium (Pu), radiocarbon (F14C…

  • The Flower Garden Banks Siderastrea siderea coral as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Kristine L Delong, Kylie Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 77

The proposed Anthropocene Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate site of West Flower Garden Bank (27.8762°N, 93.8147°W) is an open ocean location in the Gulf of Mexico with a submerged coral reef and few direct human impacts. Corals contain highly accurate and precise (<±1 year) internal chronologies, similar to tree rings, and their exoskeletons are formed of aragonite and can be preserved in the rock record. Here we prese…

  • The East Gotland Basin (Baltic Sea) as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Jérôme Kaiser, Serena Abel et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 93

The short sediment core EMB201/7-4 retrieved from the East Gotland Basin, central Baltic Sea, is explored here as a candidate to host the stratigraphical basis for the Anthropocene series and its equivalent Anthropocene epoch, still to be formalized in the Geological Time Scale. The core has been accurately dated back to 1840 CE using a well-established event stratigraphy approach. A pronounced and significant change occurs at 26.5 cm (dated 1956…

  • The varved succession of Crawford Lake, Milton, Ontario, Canada as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Francine Mg Mccarthy, Robert T Patterson et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 17•References: 41

An annually laminated succession in Crawford Lake, Ontario, Canada is proposed for the Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) to define the Anthropocene as a series/epoch with a base dated at 1950 CE. Varve couplets of organic matter capped by calcite precipitated each summer in alkaline surface waters reflect environmental change at global to local scales. Spheroidal carbonaceous particles and nitrogen isotopes record an increase in…

Open Access•Sohela Moussaoui, Pierre Chauvin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Health•2022•References: 6

  • Diatom response to mid-Holocene climate in three small Arctic lakes in northernmost Finnmark

    Open Access•Sarah Robert, Sarah Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 18

Palaeoclimatic reconstructions from lake sediment biological records can be challenging, due to variation in non-climatic factors, which alter ecosystem responses. To consider this, it is important to replicate a study regionally, so as to gain information on spatial variability of ecosystem response and the influence of site-specific conditions. Previous pollen-based palaeoclimatic records from three well-dated Arctic lake sites highlight the re…

  • Creative practice learning

Judith Billingham, Sarah Robert et al.•ARTICLE•Practice•2002•References: 3

This article reflects on the requirements for practice based learning, developments in Social Work Education and Training and challenges the location of practice opportunities. Included is an example of a student's integrated practice learning experience within a Theatre company, and a voluntary agency for people with learning difficulties. The first writer explores current practice learning and describes her own experience as an ‘off site’ pract…
