  • What organizational and business models underlie the provision of spiritual care in healthcare organizations? An initial description and analysis

Aja Antoine-Jones, Aja Antoine et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy•2022

Two-thirds of American hospitals have chaplains. This article explores the organizational and business models that underlie how chaplains are integrated into hospitals. Based on interviews with 14 chaplain managers and the 11 healthcare executives to whom they report at 18 hospitals in 9 systems, we identify three central findings. First, there is significant variation in how spiritual care programs are staffed and integrated into their hospitals…

  • Management and leadership competencies among spiritual care managers

Dae Hyun Kim, George Fitchett et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy•2022

Both the healthcare and religious landscapes in the United States are rapidly changing. Despite the dynamic environment that spiritual care managers face, many do not receive management training prior to assuming their roles and many receive little or no training once they are in their roles. This study used mixed methods to examine the applicability of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) competency model to spiritual care manage…

The purpose of this study was to identify methods by which commonly available patient satisfaction indicators could be used to identify potential malpractice litigation risks. SUBJECT AND METHODS: Using data from the risk management department of a larg…

The process of providing health services in hospitals is inherently interdisciplinary; many of the challenges to enhancing quality and safety involve the human aspects of this interdisciplinary system. Each of the major disciplines—physicians, nurses, allied health providers, and health administrators—represent qualitatively distinct sets of goals and professional values, influencing not only current behavior but also who chooses these roles in t…

  • Factor structure of the transformational leadership model in human service teams

    Open Access•Andrew N Garman, Deborah Davis‐Lenane et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2003•Citada por: 1•Referências: 6

The purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure of the transformational leadership model in human service teams. As the nature of this work environment mandates certain management‐by‐exception practices, patterns of correlations between perceptions of active and passive management‐by‐exception behaviors and transformational, transactional, and laissez‐faire leadership were of interest. 236 leaders and 620 subordinates from 54 mental…
