African women in Iberia. The Fernandino elite in Barcelona
Little is known about the role African women played at the end of the nineteenth century in the Iberian Peninsula. This paper describes the reconstruction of the first studied late modern African diaspora, settled in Catalonia in the 1880s, with its precedent, the very rich Fernandino woman of Spanish Guinea, Amelia Barleycorn. Unwritten Afro-Iberian memories and histories. Race, ethnicity and gender in Portugal and Spain
This introduction explains the existence of a little-known Iberia that was more racially and ethnically diverse than described in domestic narratives. The special issue builds an early late modern and contemporary Afro-Iberian history. It approaches African and Maghrebi experiences and memories in order to explain the close relation between race, class, ethnicity and gender in Portugal and Spain between 1850 and 2021

This article compares Spanish, Riffian and Equatorial Guinean memories to address Hispano-African history and understand their colonial experiences. Examining Africans’ voices in the 21st century from Postcolonial and Decolonial perspectives allows us to uncover Spanish colonial rhetoric about Moroccans and Equatorial Guineans and the racialised inequalities they had to face during the Spanish settlement. This article analyses the causes and consequences of the sociocultural discrimination and exclusion of Equatoguinean women in Spain. The starting premise is that a notable familiarity with Spanish culture (language and religion) as a former African colony and a long period of settlement in Spain that dates back to the 1940s should have favoured greater social advancement of this group. The Mudawwana and Koranic Law from a Gender Perspective. The Substantial Changes in the Moroccan Family Code of 2004
This paper shows how Koranic Law was enshrined in the Moroccan Family Code (the Mudawwana) in its first draft between the years 1957 and 1958.
