Linear statistical model for growth in stature from birth to maturity
A model for the physical growth of individual children from birth to adulthood is proposed which is linear in the model parameters. The advantages of linear over nonlinear models include the relative ease and costs of fitting the model to data of individuals and the fact that statistical methods are more readily available for analysis of parameters from linear models than for nonlinear models. The appropriateness of a preschool child's size at a particular age is usually assessed by comparing the child's measurement against growth charts. A mid-childhood growth spurt in height was found in 17 of 67 boys and in 0 of 67 girls followed from age two years to adulthood. The growth spurt was detected analytically from variable knot cubic splines which were fitted to the longitudinal height data of each child
Deficits in Psychologic and Classroom Performance of Children with Elevated Dentine Lead Levels
To measure the neuropsychologic effects of unidentified childhood exposure to lead, the performance of 58 children with high and 100 with low dentine lead levels was compared. Children with lead levels scored significantly less well on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) than those with low lead levels. Associations in emergence age among permanent teeth
Associations in the timing of emergence among the permanent teeth of Boston children were obtained from a mixed longitudinal growth study of 414 Caucasian twin pairs examined annually. Correlations were estimated by the method of maximum likelihood for corresponding left‐right teeth, upper‐lower teeth, and all paired combinations from central incisor to second molar in a jaw quadrant of each sex.
