    Actress‐playwright‐novelist Elizabeth Robins (1862–1952) evolved autobiography into a new form, with characteristics akin to those of performance, enabling the reader/viewer to experience the aleatory creation of a multiple, contradictory “self.”

    This article appiies the concept of “confluence”, rather than “influence”, to the comparative study of two 19th‐century women novelists, Fredrika Bremer (Sweden) and Charlotte Brontë (UK).
