Comparison of Self-Report and Hair Analysis in Detecting Cocaine Use in a Homeless/Transient Sample
Detection of current (past 30 days) drug use by analysis of hair was examined along with self-reports of current use in a 1994 treatment needs assessment survey; the sample was 179 homeless/transient adults in New York state. Results of radioimmunoassay of hair (RIAH) were used to evaluate the veracity of self-reports of current cocaine use. Spousal Violence and Alcohol/Drug Problems Among Parolees and Their Spouses
The relationships of alcohol and drug problems to spousal violence for a sample of male parolees (n = 82) and their spouses were investigated. Alcohol problems were present in 76% of the parolees and 56% of the spouses. Seventy three percent of the parolees and 40% of the spouses reported using some type of illegal drug on a regular basis. In 20 out of 27 separate samples of alcoholic men, representing geographically diverse areas of Western European culture, there were more lastborn than firstborn cases from families of 2 or more children. Dependency Conflict and Sex-Role Identity in Drinking Delinquents
Manifest and covert dependency and sex-role identity were tested in delinquent boys whose misbehavior was accompanied by the use of alcohol. The boys with marked involvement with alcohol scored significantly lower on the manifest dependency test and higher on the covert dependency test, but the sex-role identity tests were negative

Comparisons were made between 100 children of alcoholics and 100 of nonalcoholics. The findings indicated that children of alcoholics have a high risk for development of social problems and are thus a target for intervention
