High-Dimensional Newey–powell Test via Approximate Message Passing
We propose a high-dimensional extension of the heteroscedasticity test proposed in Newey and Powell (1987). Our test is based on expectile regression in the proportional asymptotic regime where $n/p \to \delta \in (0,1]$ . The asymptotic analysis of the test statistic uses the approximate message passing algorithm, from which we obtain the limiting distribution of the test and establish its asymptotic power. The numerical performance of the test …

Sirt1 regulates dermal fibroblast senescence via impaired deacetylase function and mitochondrial dysfunction during skin aging induced by chronic oral cadmium exposure
Introduction Skin aging is a complex, multifactorial biological process that can be significantly accelerated by environmental toxicants such as cadmium (Cd), a highly toxic and ubiquitous heavy metal. Although the broad cytotoxic impacts of Cd have been extensively reported, a comprehensive understanding of the precise molecular pathways underlying Cd-induced skin senescence is still lacking. In this study, we investigated the protective role of…

Spatio‐Temporal Farmland Use Transition and Its Spatial Effects on Ecosystem Services at the Township Scale in China
Farmland use transition, defined as the reconfiguration of farmland utilization patterns over time, plays a critical role in balancing food security, land conservation, and rural sustainability. Despite its importance, township‐scale transition processes remain insufficiently understood, limiting the ability to formulate locally adapted and regionally coordinated strategies. This study aims to capture farmland use transition through spatial morph…

Quantification of the coupling relationship between human footprint and ecological environment quality of artificial shorelines along the Yangtze River based on satellite observations
High-Dimensional Censored Regression via the Penalized Tobit Likelihood
High-dimensional regression and regression with a left-censored response are each well-studied topics. In spite of this, few methods have been proposed which deal with both of these complications simultaneously. The Tobit model—long the standard method for censored regression in economics—has not been adapted for high-dimensional regression at all. To fill this gap and bring up-to-date techniques from high-dimensional statistics to the field of h…
Joint-sensemaking, innovation, and communication management during crisis
As exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, the design and implementation of data-driven health surveillance, like digital contact tracing (DCT) apps, carry significant implications for society. However, its rushed development calls for careful consideration from all involved stakeholders to achieve a shared understanding and engage in joint-sensemaking in order to implement DCT collaboratively and effectively utilize it in the fight against the pan…
Interactions between soil water and plant community during vegetation succession in the restored grasslands on the Loess Plateau of China
Plant–soil water relations are important for understanding the development of plant communities, especially in arid and semiarid areas. However, the interactions between vegetation characteristics and soil water dynamics in the restored grasslands along succession chronosequence were limitedly understood. In this study, we measured the functional traits of dominant species, plant community characteristics and soil water dynamics in grasslands res…
Coordinated Evolution and Influencing Factors of Population and Economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt
The degree of population-economy coupling and coordination is an important indicator of a region's balanced development. This study examines the evolution of the population-economy coupling coordination pattern in the Yangtze River Economic Belt spanning from 2000 to 2019. It draws from the economic growth stage and related theories, and employs methods such as geographic concentration, center of gravity analysis, and the coupling coordination mo…

The Role of miRNAs in Zearalenone-Promotion of TM3 Cell Proliferation
Zearalenone (ZEA) is a non-steroidal estrogen mycotoxin produced by several Gibberella and Fusarium species. Accumulating evidence has indicated that ZEA strongly stimulates cell proliferation. However the detailed molecular and cellular mechanisms of ZEA-mediated induction of cell proliferation have not yet been completely explained. The aim of this study was to detect the role of miRNAs in ZEA-mediated induction of cell proliferation. The effec…
Insurance Premium Prediction via Gradient Tree-Boosted Tweedie Compound Poisson Models
The Tweedie GLM is a widely used method for predicting insurance premiums. However, the structure of the logarithmic mean is restricted to a linear form in the Tweedie GLM, which can be too rigid for many applications. As a better alternative, we propose a gradient tree-boosting algorithm and apply it to Tweedie compound Poisson models for pure premiums. We use a profile likelihood approach to estimate the index and dispersion parameters. Our met…
An Enhanced K-Means Algorithm for Water Quality Analysis of The Haihe River in China
The increase and the complexity of data caused by the uncertain environment is today's reality. In order to identify water quality effectively and reliably, this paper presents a modified fast clustering algorithm for water quality analysis. The algorithm has adopted a varying weights K-means cluster algorithm to analyze water monitoring data. The varying weights scheme was the best weighting indicator selected by a modified indicator weight self…

The Adaptive Lasso and Its Oracle Properties
The lasso is a popular technique for simultaneous estimation and variable selection. Lasso variable selection has been shown to be consistent under certain conditions. In this work we derive a necessary condition for the lasso variable selection to be consistent. Consequently, there exist certain scenarios where the lasso is inconsistent for variable selection. We then propose a new version of the lasso, called the adaptive lasso, where adaptive …
Regularization and Variable Selection Via the Elastic Net
We propose the elastic net, a new regularization and variable selection method. Real world data and a simulation study show that the elastic net often outperforms the lasso, while enjoying a similar sparsity of representation. In addition, the elastic net encourages a grouping effect, where strongly correlated predictors tend to be in or out of the model together. The elastic net is particularly useful when the number of predictors (p) is much bi…
