Open Access•Pingping Cai, Siqin Gaowa et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: Given the increasing burden of the "silent" depressive symptoms and the significant comorbidity of osteoporosis in the population living alone, this study aimed to investigate the separate and combined impacts of living alone and osteoporosis on the prevalence of depression in the older Chinese population. Methods: A total of 4,240 Chinese suburban-dwelling older individuals (mean age: 71.75 ± 5.88 years; 58.0% women) aged ≥60 years w…

  • Unstructured scene search experience impairs contextual cue learning by shortening the reinforcement time window

Open Access•Xiaoyu Chen, Rui Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

Contextual cueing refers to the incidental acquisition of associations between distractor contexts and targets that are repeatedly presented in visual search scenes. Extensive prior exposure to random, unstructured scenes may reduce the efficiency of contextual cue learning. The present study aimed to verify the existence of this phenomenon and to explore the mechanism by which unstructured scene experience interferes with contextual cue learning…

  • Talent Migration Across China's Urban Hierarchy

Open Access•Zhonghua Huang, Xiaoyu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Population Space and Place•2026

Talent migration across urban hierarchy has emerged as a critical policy concern in China and the world. Based on the China Migrants Dynamic Survey (2017–2018), this study investigates the spatial patterns of talent migration across urban hierarchy and examines the effect of housing pressure on cross‐hierarchical mobility. The results show that talent migration exhibits an upward pattern across the urban hierarchy, with skilled workers moving tow…

  • A study on the needs for mental health courses for middle school students based on qualitative interviews from diverse perspectives

Open Access•Chaochao Lu, Ying Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2026

Findings support a developmentally sequenced, school-based mental-health curriculum aligned with HPS principles, combining universal and grade-differentiated modules, interactive pedagogy, trained staff, and school-family-community collaboration with referral pathways. Limitations (single-province sample, self-developed instrument, self-report, potential selection bias) temper generalizability; future cross-regional, prospective evaluations shoul…

  • Nutritional status mediates the relationship between depression and mild cognitive impairment among Chinese community-dwelling older adults

Open Access•Xiaoyu Chen, Peipei Han et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Individuals at risk of malnutrition or depressed were associated with MCI. Poor nutritional condition mediates the association between depression and MCI in older adults. Early nutritional interventions may mitigate cognitive decline in depressed older adults

  • Efficacy effects of fecal microbiota transplantation on depressive symptoms

Open Access•Jiamin Fu, Yuchi Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

There is insufficient evidence to support a significant efficacy of FMT on depressive symptoms, but subgroup analyses suggest that FMT may have a better antidepressant effect in the population with confirmed depression, and therefore more randomized controlled trials are necessary to validate the association between FMT and depressive symptoms

Open Access•Wu Qianhao, Jinwen Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

This study establishes a hierarchical metabolic framework for depression, prioritizing single-carbon metabolism and oxidative stress as central therapeutic targets. The findings emphasize methylation dysregulation and mitochondrial dysfunction in elderly depression, offering novel biomarkers for precision intervention

  • The spatial heterogeneity effects of street environmental factors on the preference for sports and leisure cycling paths across different street types

Open Access•Yu Wen, Bingbing Liu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Current research has not fully explored how streetscape elements in different street spaces affect long-distance, high-speed recreational cycling. As a result, the applicability of existing findings across different street environments is limited, hindering their practical value in urban street design. To address this issue, this study focuses on the core urban area of Hangzhou, China. Streets are functionally categorized based on Point of Intere…

Open Access•Han Zheng, Lin Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2024

Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) have surged in popularity for their role in promoting knowledge exchange and providing emotional support among health consumers. However, this enhanced social connectivity via these apps has led to an escalation in privacy breaches, potentially hindering user engagement. Drawing upon the communication privacy management theory, this study proposes a moderated mediation model to link social privacy concern…

  • Positive emotions enhance adaptability to contextual-cueing learning

Xiaoyu Chen, Yuanyuan Du et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2022
