K-12 Arts Educators of Color
Using counterstories as a lens to center the experiences of K-12 arts educators of color, this study argues that professional learning communities are unique and useful sites for collaboration. Racism and Brazilian democracy
Experiences with racism and age negatively affect how Afro-Brazilians in Salvador and São Paulo rate democracy. Older cohorts are more likely to rate democracy high compared to younger cohorts who rate it as low. Respondents in Salvador tend to rate democracy lower than respondents in São Paulo. Moreover, interviews reveal that as citizens believe they are not accorded full rights, they do not agree that Brazil's political system is fully democra…
The Politics of Skin Color in Brazil
Race in Brazil was constructed differently than race in the United States. This article traces the historical making of race in Brazil. I also examine recent notions of race and color that acknowledge that blacks and browns are distinctly different than whites when considering social and economic inequalities between the two.
