  • Cross-cohort insights into the association of handgrip strength transitions and burdens with cardiovascular disease risk

Open Access•Hua Lin, Jike Qi et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Population Health•2026

Background: Previous studies established handgrip strength (HGS) as a potential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, existing studies focused exclusively on baseline HGS and neglected longitudinal changes in HGS during follow-up. Thus, our aim was to investigate the associations of transitions and dynamic burdens of HGS with incident CVD risk. Methods: We analyzed data from the UK Biobank (UKB), the China Health and Retirement …

  • Can bigger cities be safer? Evidence from criminal indictment data in China

Open Access•Yu Yan, Xiuqin Wu•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Management•2026

This paper examines how city size affects the criminal indictment rate, drawing on panel data from Chinese cities spanning 2014-2021. The results show that bigger cities are associated with significantly lower criminal indictment rates. This finding remains robust after accounting for endogeneity concerns and conducting a series of robustness checks. Further analyses provide suggestive evidence that larger cities may reduce criminal indictments t…

  • A combined approach of simulation-based “debriefing with good judgment” and case-based learning to enhance clinical thinking in Chinese residents

Open Access•Wenming Shao, Xin Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Objective Clinical reasoning is a fundamental and critical competency for physicians. However, how to effectively help resident trainees to develop and enhance this ability remains a challenge for medical instructors. In this study, a teaching approach that combines simulation-based “Debriefing with Good Judgment” (DwGJ) with Case-Based Learning (CBL) was employed to improve the clinical reasoning among standardized training residents. The effect…

  • Effects of isometric training based on the entire population on blood pressure regulation

Open Access•Yu Yan, Chu Sun et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: Although numerous studies have investigated the influence of isometric exercise on the management of resting blood pressure, consistent conclusions have not been reached. This study aims to assess the effect of isometric exercise on resting blood pressure regulation and to identify the key parameters of an effective training protocol through subgroup analysis, thereby providing a scientific foundation for individualized exercise presc…

  • The role of tropical cyclones in accelerating dengue transmission

Open Access•Yu Yan, Mengjie Geng et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2026

Introduction To quantify the impact of tropical cyclones on dengue transmission dynamics and related disease burden by integrating field entomology with dynamic modelling in Guangzhou, China. Methods Guangzhou was selected as the study site considering that it is China’s most dengue-endemic coastal megacity with frequent tropical cyclones and the country’s largest recorded dengue outbreak in 2014. Mark–release–recapture experiments with laborator…

  • Where conflicts emerge

Yu Yan, Peiqing Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Geographies•2026

In tourist cities, pronounced heterogeneity in stakeholders’ interest claims and value judgments—particularly between residents and tourists—often translates into sharply diverging attitudes toward street vendors. This poses a persistent challenge for spatial governance, yet the typologies and spatial mechanisms of such conflicts remain difficult to diagnose in the absence of robust quantification tools. To address this gap, the present study ado…

  • Cross‐Cultural Validation and Measurement Equivalence of Instigated Workplace Incivility Scale

Open Access•Mujahid Iqbal, Xiaomin Sun et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Psychology•2026

Although workplace incivility (WI) has been extensively studied, limited attention has been paid to its validation in culturally diverse contexts such as China and Pakistan. Addressing this gap, the present study examines the psychometric properties of the instigated WI scale within these two distinct cultural settings. Furthermore, it investigates the cross‐cultural measurement equivalence of the scale using a daily diary methodology. Participan…

  • Catastrophizing versus positive reappraisal

Open Access•Zhao-Xue Cao, Yu Yan et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

As a low-intensity stressor with ambiguous intent, workplace incivility has sparked debate regarding its real impact. A key unresolved question is how daily incivility elicits specific cognitive processes that lead to sustained exhaustion over time. This study examines cognitive depletion-a critical state linked to impaired job performance-by investigating its relationship with workplace incivility and the mediating roles of catastrophizing and p…

  • Unravelling the role of inflammatory markers in coronary artery disease risk via association, mediation and prediction analyses

Open Access•Hao Zhang, Heng Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2026

Background: Systemic inflammation plays a critical role in coronary artery disease (CAD), yet comprehensive profiling of inflammatory markers and their integration into predictive models remain incompletely characterised. We here sought to identify key CAD-related inflammation markers and construct an integrated inflammatory risk score (IRS) to enhance conventional cardiovascular risk prediction. Methods: Associations between 18 complete blood co…

  • Punish or help? Third parties’ constructive responses to witnessed workplace incivility

Open Access•Kai-Chen Zhao, Yan Yu et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Existing workplace incivility research from the perspective of third parties has been found to be limited in explaining the specific boundary conditions of their constructive responses, such as punishing the instigator and helping the target. The lack of relevant knowledge hinders a comprehensive understanding of the coping strategies favoured by third parties. Building on the deontic model and the value protection model, this research involved t…

  • Research on Multi-Scale Vector Road-Matching Model Based on Isod Descriptor

Open Access•Yu Yan, Ying Sun et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2025

In geographic information data processing, the matching of road data at different scales is crucial. Due to scale differences, road features can change, posing a challenge to multi-scale matching. Spatial relationship is the key to matching because it remains stable at different scales. In this paper, we propose an improved summation product of direction and distance (ISOD) descriptor, which combines features such as included angle chain and camb…
