This study aims to evaluate the factors influencing the knowledge and attitude toward pain management among emergency department nurses. Methods In this cross-sectional study, a survey was conducted among 345 nurses working in the emergency department in China using the Wenjuanxin platform. Data were col…
A network analysis of gene co-expression in post-mortem brain tissues identifying novel genes and biological pathways underlying major depression
The hub genes may provide possible candidates for MDD targeted therapy that is worth exploring
Internationalization of medical education in China
AIM: Global competence has become an important competence for medical graduates in the globalized world. However, research on it is scarce. This study was built upon the scholarship published in the field to measure medical graduates' global competence. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire was administered to China's medical graduates sampled from four institutions of medical education. Descriptive statistics were made to analyze the level of m…
Thyroid cancer trends in China and its comparative analysis with G20 countries
Background: Thyroid cancer, a leading type of endocrine cancer, accounts for 3-4% of all cancer diagnoses. This study aims to analyse and compare thyroid cancer patterns in China and the Group twenty (G20) countries, and predict these trend for the upcoming two decades. Methods: This observational longitudinal study utilised data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2019. We used metrics including incidence, mortality, mortality-incidenc…
The trend of Aids in China
Background: In China, AIDS has become the most severe notifiable infectious disease. The study aimed to analyse and predict the trend of AIDS in China and compared with Group of Twenty (G20) countries. Methods: We utilised incidence, mortality or disability-adjusted life years (DALY), age-standardised rates (ASR), average annual percentage changes (AAPC) to estimate the trend via GBD 2019. The Joinpoint regression analysis was applied to identify…
Radiographically confirmed community-acquired pneumonia in hospitalized adults due to pneumococcal vaccine serotypes in Sweden, 2016–2018—The Ecaps study
Objectives: In Sweden, pneumococcal serotype distribution in adults with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and potential coverage of currently licensed pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) is unknown. Methods: (Spn) culture isolates were serotyped and urine samples tested for the pan-pneumococcal urinary antigen (PUAT) and multiplex urine antigen detection (UAD) assay, detecting 24 serotypes. Results: Analyses included 518 participants with RA…
Can a theme-based joint block play program promote preschoolers’ cooperative skills
The present study examined the effectiveness of a cooperative skill intervention program using theme-based joint block play for young children. Thirty-two 4–5 years old preschoolers from Shanghai, China, were assigned to the experimental group while thirty-two children comprised the comparison group. The experimental group was engaged in an 8-week theme-based joint block play program, whereas the comparison group received no intervention but enga…
Non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal ideation among adolescents
Adolescent non-suicidal self-injury can indirectly affect suicidal ideation through rumination and decentering. In the future, mindfulness and other methods should be used to improve individuals' levels of decentering and cultivate emotional regulation abilities, so as to reduce the incidence of non-suicidal self-injury and suicide in adolescents
Daly trend and predictive analysis of COPD in China and its provinces
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the most common chronic respiratory disease in the world, especially in China. Few studies have explored the trend of COPD in China and its provinces. This study aimed to demonstrate and predict the trend of COPD DALY in China and its provinces based on the global burden of disease (GBD) data. Methods: The data on COPD disability-adjusted life year (DALY) were collected from GBD 2017, GB…
Social Mobility in Late Imperial China
Using unique data, we test whether the civil examination system in late imperial China (1796–1905) constituted a route to social mobility. We find that measures of both ability and “family type”—specifically the upper gentry family type—consistently predict success in the highest level exam, the jinshi, while direct proxies for wealth do not. Specifically, the higher the level of the father’s education the greater the odds of passing the first st…
Civil and Military Examination participation of the Que lineage in Shicang village in the Qing Dynasty
The literature on social stratification and mobility in Imperial China reveals that the academic tracking system was one important source of educational inequality. The Imperial Examinations system in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty China was a dual-track structure formed of Civil ( wen) and Military ( wu) Examinations. Earlier scholars have focused on the provincial and national levels of the system, paying little attention to the lowest, county-l…
