Tenure trajectories of children and young people in Aotearoa New Zealand between 2013–2022
Unveiling the interactive mechanisms and key obstacles of urban economic-social-environmental systems under sustainable development goals
Continued Tenancy in Public Housing and Youth Justice Outcomes
In New Zealand, public housing can offer households a permanent home and a rental‐based approximation of owner‐occupation. Using a social determinants framework, this paper examines youth justice outcomes among individuals aged 14–24 years who were continuously housed in public housing between 2013 and 2022, including those who resided in different public housing units over time. We find that reported police offences, court charges and instances …
How does environmental regulation promote firm performance? Evidence from Chinese environmentally friendly firms
This study focuses on the impact of environmental regulations on the financial performance of environmentally friendly firms and the mechanisms involved. The Importance of Housing Assistance on Reducing Youth Offending in New Zealand
This paper examines the relationship between housing assistance and youth offending in New Zealand (NZ). Using the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), we established three cohorts of youth aged 14–24 who were part of households that received the Emergency Housing Special Needs Grant (EHSNG), lived in public housing, or received the Accommodation Supplement (AS) between 2016 and 2022. We found that offending decreased significantly among young p…
From green consumption to carbon inclusion
This study examines carbon inclusion as an innovative policy mechanism for addressing consumer‐side emissions within industrial ecosystems. Carbon inclusion quantifies and incentivizes individual low‐carbon behaviors, bridging consumer choices and industrial transformation. Using longitudinal analysis of China's green consumption and carbon inclusion policies (2013–2024), combined with text mining and expert interviews, we investigate how carbon …
Depressive symptoms and internet use among middle-aged and older adults pre- and post-Covid-19 outbreak
This study provides novel insights into the central features of depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. Targeting interventions to central symptoms and strong edges may have significant implications for depression treatment. In addition, strategies aimed at enhancing Internet use guidance could potentially benefit the mental health of middle-aged and older adults
Yin-chen Wu-ling powder inhibits Mapks/CXCL1/CXCR2-induced neutrophil infiltration to alleviate LPS/D-GalN-induced acute liver failure
Beyond pain presence
The mere presence of chronic pain may not significantly affect cognitive function, but having multi-site pain could be a risk factor for cognitive decline in later life. Addressing multi-site pain and/or pain interference in psychosocial dimensions may help protect cognitive health
Voluntary participation and life satisfaction among Chinese older adults
Objectives Theories of productive aging suggest that voluntary participation can enhance the subjective well-being of older adults. However, the extent to which this relationship is confounded by factors such as individual health status, social roles, socioeconomic status (SES), and community factors remains uncertain. This study aims to address this selection effect while simultaneously exploring the heterogeneity in life satisfaction associated…
From visitors to vitality
Urban shrinkage, exacerbated by population aging, is a critical global issue, with particularly severe effects in Asia. This study introduces the concept of the ''relational population,'' highlighting the potential of tourists as long-term contributors to regional revitalization. Unlike traditional tourist roles, this research explores how tourists can foster regional vitality by becoming emotionally invested stakeholders. Focusing on Tamsui, a s…

Taking Stock of Built Environment Stock Studies
Built environment stocks (buildings and infrastructures) play multiple roles in our socio-economic metabolism: they serve as the backbone of modern societies and human well-being, drive the material cycles throughout the economy, entail temporal and spatial lock-ins on energy use and emissions, and represent an extensive reservoir of secondary materials. This review aims at providing a comprehensive and critical review of the state of the art, pr…

A global reference for human genetic variation
The 1000 Genomes Project set out to provide a comprehensive description of common human genetic variation by applying whole-genome sequencing to a diverse set of individuals from multiple populations. Here we report completion of the project, having reconstructed the genomes of 2,504 individuals from 26 populations using a combination of low-coverage whole-genome sequencing, deep exome sequencing, and dense microarray genotyping. We characterized…

Understanding the Evolution of Industrial Symbiosis Research
This study analyzes the evolution of the research field of industrial symbiosis (IS). We elucidate its embedding in industrial ecology (IE), trace the development of research themes, and reveal the evolution of the research network through analysis of the core literature and journals that appeared from 1997 to 2012 by citation analysis, cocitation analysis, and network analysis. In the first period (1997–2005), IS research held a minority share i…
Cholelithiasis and the risk of liver cancer
BACKGROUND: Cholelithiasis and cholecystectomy have been proposed as risk factors for liver cancer, but findings have been inconsistent. We assessed this association using data from the Shanghai Women's and Men's Health Studies. METHODS: History of cholelithiasis and cholecystectomy were reported at baseline and follow-up interviews, and liver cancer diagnoses were ascertained from the Shanghai Cancer Registry and Vital Statistics Unit. Adjusted …
Exploring the Relevance of the Eco-City Concept in China
While the original eco-city concept as developed by authors such as Richard Register is based on the ecological carrying capacity of the bio-region and has been fleshed out by others to include Western interpretations of good governance such as having a collaborative platform, constructive dialogue, a systems approach, and integrated policy-making, its practical implementation in China has taken a very different turn. Understanding this gap, the …
The Collective's Things are More Important Than an Individual's
One evening it suddenly started to pour. The house of Ma Chün-p'ing [1A] - third woman's production team leader of Ch'eng Kuan Commune, Shen Tse Hsien, Hopei Province - was leaking. This child was crying that her quilt was wet, that one was yelling that her clothes were wet. Ma Chün-p'ing pulled on her clothes and got ready to go up on her roof to mend the leak. Suddenly she thought of the team's ditch of potato buds for planting. After the potat…
