  • What makes a good article for leadership? Thoughts and views from our associate editors, part 2

Open Access•Gareth Edwards, Doris Schedlitzki et al.•ARTICLE•Leadership•2025•Referencias: 3

Last year we published an editorial that included thoughts and views about what makes a good article for Leadership from three of our associate editors (see Edwards et al., 2024 - https://repository.londonmet.ac.uk/9083/). As this editorial was so well received, we wanted to do the same this year and publish a part 2. This time we hear from three more associate editors, Sarah Robinson, Richard Bolden and Suze Wilson, as they too respond to the fo…

This issue of Leadership marks our first full year as Co-Editors-in-Chief. As we highlighted in our introductory editorial (Edwards and Schedlitzki, 2023) we see our role as striving to develop the community of the journal in its endeavour to be a key, critical and contemporary voice for leadership studies. To continue this journey, and to help contributors frame and develop their work for submission to the journal, we have invited some of our As…

  • Putting leadership in its place

Open Access•Neil Sutherland, Roxana Bolden et al.•ARTICLE•Leadership•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 15

This special issue emerges from a call for papers issued following the 18th International Studying Leadership Conference, hosted at the University of the West of England in December 2019, which addressed the theme of ‘Putting leadership in its place’. There was a certain playfulness to the topic, which invited contributors to not only look at the role of ‘place’ within Leadership Studies but also to actively challenge the reverence in which ‘lead…

  • Where have all the followers gone

Open Access•Steve Kempster, Doris Schedlitzki et al.•ARTICLE•Leadership•2020•Referencias: 22

In this short article, we explore and problematise the axiomatic assumption of follower in the field of leadership studies notably the leader–follower axiom as the essential foundation of much leadership theorising. We do so, firstly by drawing on our experiences of exploring followership conceptually, and secondly, by reviewing conversations with executive MBA students. From these sources, we argue that the absence of identifications with follow…

  • Bringing the ugly back

    Open Access•Gareth Edwards, Beverley Hawkins et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2019•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 64

In this article, we adopt a dialogic approach to examining narratives on ethics in leadership. We do this through an ethno-narrative re-reading of writing on the Enron case informed by Bakhtin’s ideas on dialogue. Employing concepts such as beautyism, aesthetic craving and recent writing around disgust and abjection in organizations helps us to develop a deeper relational interpretation of written accounts of leadership and ethics in organization…

  • The absent follower

Open Access•Doris Schedlitzki, Gareth Edwards et al.•ARTICLE•Leadership•2017•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 25

This article seeks to add to our understanding of processes of identity construction within organisationally assigned leader–follower relations through an exploration of the role of the absent, feminised follower. We situate our work within critical and psychoanalytic contributions to leader/ship and follower/ship and use Lacan’s writings on identification and lack to illuminate the imaginary, failing nature of identity construction. This aims to…

  • Ways of leading in non-Anglophone contexts

Open Access•Doris Schedlitzki, Peter Case et al.•ARTICLE•Leadership•2017•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 3

The English language has for some time dominated academia worldwide (Steyaert and Janssens, 2013) and become accepted and institutionally embedded as the international language of academia. This is illustrated within the field of leadership studies where, since its beginnings in the early part of the Twentieth Century, research into leadership has largely been pursued by scholars in the USA and the UK working in the English language. Consequently…
