  • Meta-epidemiology and the MetaBLIND study

    Open Access•Helene Moustgaard, Asbjørn Hróbjartsson•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2023•Referencias: 9

In 2020 we published MetaBLIND, a large meta-epidemiological study on the impact of masking on effect estimates in randomized clinical trials (RCTs). While masking is an established methodological practice in RCTs it is not clear to what extent results of non-masked RCTs are biased. Surprisingly, we found no evidence of an impact of masking on effect estimates, on average. Michiel Tack commented on the MetaBLIND study, and here we respond. The is…

  • A declaração PRISMA 2020

A declaração PRISMA 2020 substitui a declaração d…

Background: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement, published in 2009, was designed to help systematic reviewers transparently report why the review was done, what the authors did and what they found. Over the last decade, there have been many advances in systematic review methodology and terminology, which have necessitated an update to the guideline. Objectives: To develop the PRISMA 2020 statem…

  • RoB 2

Open Access•Jonathan Sterne, Jelena Savović et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ•2019

Assessment of risk of bias is regarded as an essential component of a systematic review on the effects of an intervention. The most commonly used tool for randomised trials is the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We updated the tool to respond to developments in understanding how bias arises in randomised trials, and to address user feedback on and limitations of the original tool.

  • Robins-I

Open Access•Jonathan Sterne, Jonathan AC Sterne et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ•2016

Non-randomised studies of the effects of interventions are critical to many areas of healthcare evaluation, but their results may be biased. It is therefore important to understand and appraise their strengths and weaknesses. We developed ROBINS-I (“Risk Of Bias In Non-randomised Studies - of Interventions”), a new tool for evaluating risk of bias in estimates of the comparative effectiveness (harm or benefit) of interventions from studies that d…

Open Access•An-Wen Chan, An‐Wen Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Internal Medicine•2013

The protocol of a clinical trial serves as the foundation for study planning, conduct, reporting, and appraisal. However, trial protocols and existing protocol guidelines vary greatly in content and quality. This article describes the systematic development and scope of SPIRIT (Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials) 2013, a guideline for the minimum content of a clinical trial protocol. The 33-item SPIRIT checklist app…
