  • Recent incarceration and use of a supervised injection facility in Vancouver, Canada

    M-J Milloy, M‐j Milloy et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2009

There are concerns that Vancouver's supervised injection facility (SIF) for injection drug users (IDU) is an amplifier of drug-related crime. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the possible association between SIF use and recent incarceration among IDU. We examined incarceration experiences among participants in the Scientific Evaluation of Supervised Injecting (SEOSI) prospective cohort. The relationship between recent incarceration and frequent S…

  • Worker Productivity, Working Time Reduction, And The Short–Run And Long–Run Employment Effects

Open Access•Chun-Chieh Huang, Chun–chieh Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2002

This paper illustrates a shirking–type efficiency wage model to explain why shorter working hours cause an ambiguous effect on employment as the empirical result. We find that shorter working hours have an uncertain impact on the work effort, and the relationship between work effort and shorter working time is a decisive factor in the employment effect of working time reduction. Moreover, it is also found that, given the zero profit constraint, t…

  • Anticipated Inflation in a Monetary Economy with Endogenous Growth

    Open Access•Wen‐Ya Chang, Ching‐Chong Lai•ARTICLE•Economica•2000

This paper makes a new attempt to investigate the role of anticipatedmonetary growth in economic growth. Combining the Barro (1990)–Rebelo (1991)‐type endogenous growth model with Sidrauski's (1967) framework, we show that the pre‐announcement of money supply behaviour may have significant effects on the rate of growth during the transition process. The key factor indetermining adjustment patterns of the economy to anticipated monetary changes is…

  • A Dynamic Model of Union Membership and Employment

    Open Access•Juin‐jen Chang, Ching‐Chong Lai et al.•ARTICLE•Economica•1998

This paper re‐examines the dynamic features and the long‐run effects of raising interest rates on union membership and employment in the Jones–McKenna (1994) model. Two major findings emerge from the analysis. First, the dynamic system of Jones and McKenna’s model exhibits saddlepoint stability, rather than global stability. Second, when the economy experiences a rise in interest rate, union membership will eventually converge to a higher level

  • The Relative Performance of Macroeconomic Policies Under Alternative Exchange Rates With Wage Indexation and Rational Expectations
