An attempt was made to compare subjective and psychometric procedures in assessing the viability of paraprofessional selection. Although volunteers in this study were selected by a group interview on the basis of several helping characteristics, psychometric assessment of these same characteristics failed to distinguish selected from rejected volunteers.
