Staying With the Trouble, a Rhizomatic Approach to Posthuman Methods
Persistent pain is the leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide. Research into pain experiences often adopts a humanistic perspective, predominantly relying on interview data and rarely engaging with real-world contexts. The Posthuman Walking Project brought together a transdisciplinary network of individuals with lived experiences of pain alongside academics and clinicians from five countries to collectively explore how posthuman p…
If you’re serious about losing weight, why are you drinking all those Cokes?’
Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) have been identified as a health policy target, due to their associations with weight gain. However, fatness or 'obesity' is associated with stigma, and for 'obese' children, mother blame; thus, SSB policies must be evaluated for their potential to reinforce existing forms of stigma. Interrogating progress indicators of the third Millennium Development Goal from the viewpoint of ultrapoor Bangladeshi female heads of household
Three indicators are instituted to monitor progress towards the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG3) directed at the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment: girls’ participation in education, women's participation in nonagricultural wage employment, and women's participation in national political decision-making. We examined these indicators through the narratives of 43 ultrapoor Bangladeshi women heads of households. Although t…
Giving Patients Responsibility or Fostering Mutual Response-Ability
Current visions of family medicine and models of chronic illness management integrate evidence-based medicine with collaborative, patient-centered care, despite critiques that these constructs conflict with each other. With this potential conflict in mind, we applied a critical discursive psychology methodology to present discursive patterns articulated by 13 family physicians in Ontario, Canada, regarding care of patients living with multiple ch…

This paper examines the dominant discourses utilized by 21 farmwomen with children in three regions of Canada in relation to their talk of household food provisioning. We define food provisioning as the acquisition, preparation, and consumption of food that draws on personal, family, and community resources and supports. Farmwomen expressed their position as gatekeeper of the family meal through traditional gender role discourses. Feeding their f…
