The authors compared scores on the WAIS and Tiffany Experienced Control Scales for three groups of subjects over 68 years of age, living in a health care facility (Group I), living with or near family members (Group II), and living in their own homes (Group III). Analysis suggests that the amount of control perceived by subjects is validated by their living accommodations. Further support is given to these findings by the comparison of control scores to the Performance IQs of the WAIS. Subjects low on performance are also low in their perceptions of control. All groups were similar on the verbal subtests. The authors suggest that further use of the Tiffany Experienced Control Scales might be helpful in better understanding perceived control across the adult life-span
