This article explores how gendered vulnerability is represented in Nepali street art. It focuses on three different public mural initiatives in Kathmandu that address women’s vulnerability to discrimination and violence and the need for greater awareness through different visual strategies. We argue that these initiatives are illustrative of the questions that art raises about how feminism can be mediated in different popular visual art forms. Specifically, they highlight how vulnerability is not just a side effect of exposure and objectification but a tool. It can be channeled for building solidarity or for more tactical gains. Vulnerability thus often produces paradoxical effects in visual art. While vulnerability is an outcome of oppression and a part of protest that can be difficult to represent, representing empowerment without an acknowledgment of the different degrees of oppression that individuals and communities have experienced can contribute to residual forms of inequality
