A "mixed language" involving Cree and Ojibwa has been reported for certain isolated populations of northeastern Manitoba. Ethnohistorical and demographic studies forming part of an interdisciplinary project tend to corroborate such a view by pointing to a high degree of population mixture. The linguistic survey yields some preliminary conclusions while at the same time indicating areas for further study. Attention is also given to the use of sampling and of questionnaires as tools in a language contact study
