L'A. examine la position de Locke dans le debat sur le colonialisme anglais en Amerique au 17 e siecle. L'A. analyse les arguments economiques de Mun, Child ou Davenant qui defendaient les plantations et la colonisation, et il fait resortir une ressemblance avec certains passages des «deux traites sur le gouvernement civil» de Locke, lui-meme implique directement dans le gouvernement de la Caroline
