Sankofa pedagogy
Culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) has become an emerging strategy for improving the learning outcomes of historically marginalised children. Its applicability in decolonising education within African, historically colonised and multicultural contexts, however, is a developing field. This article presents findings from a Ghanaian rural basic school. Educators, teachers, students, and community participants are engaged to qualitatively investiga…
Dialogically Constructing a Culturally Sustaining Multilingual Family Literacies Approach in Early Childhood Settings
This paper explores a family literacies approach that is being co-constructed in a critical participatory action research project. Socio-cultural beliefs, attitudes, and practices underpin the conduct of perpetrators, targets, bystanders, and responding service providers, including police, health, and social welfare services. Bystanders’ willingness to act to help targets of family violence is a key dimen…

This is a key finding of research examining professional educators’ and carers’ experiences of problematic sexual behaviours in their workplaces, their understanding of problematic sexual be…

As part of a wider study, this paper reports on Australian educators’ understanding of children’s typical and problematic sexual behaviour and their source of training in this area. A sample of 107 educators from government, independent and Catholic primary schools, preschools and care organisations across Australia answered an online questionnaire regarding their understanding of and experiences with children’s problematic sexual behaviours and …
