This article examines migration flows to neoextractivist enclaves within the framework of necropolitics and the political ecology of migration. It explores how degraded territories, shaped by illegal mining, human trafficking, and the sex trade, function as both forces of expulsion and attraction. The theoretical framework integrates concepts of accumulation by dispossession and extractive biopolitics to understand how state control, labor precar…

  • Un imperio en movimiento

    Open Access•Sofia Chacaltana-Cortez, Diana Mogrovejo et al.•ARTICLE•Antípoda Revista de Antropología…•2024•Cited by: 1

Numerous studies have explored mobility along the Qhapaq Ñan. In this…

  • Large-scale, collaborative imagery survey in archaeology

Imagery-based survey is capable of producing archaeological datasets that complement those collected through field-based survey methods, widening the scope of analysis beyond regions. The Geospatial Platform for Andean Culture, History and Archaeology (GeoPACHA) enables systematic registry of imagery survey data through a 'federated' approach. Using GeoPACHA, teams pursue problem-specific research questions through a common data schema and interf…

    Open Access•Sofia Chacaltana-Cortez, Sofía Chacaltana Cortez•ARTICLE•Boletín de Arqueología PUCP•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Historical accounts of the Iberian incursion into the Andes indicate that Spaniards were amazed by the sophisticated roads and waystations (tambos) they encountered across Andean territory. During and after the Iberian conquest, indigenous and Spanish armies constantly burned tambos for strategic reasons, in order to slow the movement of enemy troops. Despite this practice, tambos were one of the few institutions that continued during the colonia…
