  • Current situation and influencing factors of scientific literacy in fitness of Chinese children and adolescents

Open Access•Yanfeng Zhang, Deqiang Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Objective This study aimed to develop and validate a scientific fitness literacy (SFL) assessment model for Chinese children and adolescents and to examine the associations between SFL and its key influencing factors within an integrated social–ecological and self-determination theory framework. Methods Data were collected from 147,104 students (grades 4–12) across 31 provinces in mainland China using a multi-stage cluster random sampling design.…

Open Access•Misaki Matsunaga, Koya Suzuki et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Introduction: Physical literacy contributes to physical activity and comprises four conceptually interrelated domains: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. The International Sport and Culture Association proposed the Physical Literacy for Life self-assessment tool (PL4L); however, its factor structure and usability are not clear. This study aimed to examine the factor structure and internal consistency of the PL4L in adults and its associa…

  • Students’ Intention to Adopt E-learning Platform for College English Study

Open Access•Pengyu Deng, Bing Chen et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2024

E-learning platform (ELP) provides economic and efficient channels to share and learn knowledge online without time and location restrictions. Earlier studies have identified determinants that impact students’ intention to use new technologies in different learning contexts, yet few have tried to investigate the effect of students’ satisfaction of basic psychological needs during the adoption process. Based on the framework of UTAUT2, this study …

  • Relationship between Skeletal Muscle Thickness and Physical Activity in 4- to 6-Year-Olds in Japan

Open Access•Pengyu Deng, Hayao Ozaki et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

The time spent involved in most of the different categories of moderate-to-vigorous PA was significantly higher for boys than for girls on the weekdays and weekends. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between time spent in moderate-to-vigorous PA and greater development of skeletal muscle in the lower body

  • Associations of Morphological Changes in Skeletal Muscles of Preschool Children in China Following Physical Activity

Open Access•Pengyu Deng, Hayao Ozaki et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

We found that the muscle thickness of the posterior thigh in preschool children was significantly positively associated with PA, as measured by daily steps and MVPA. We suggest that for the overall health and well-being of preschool children, the levels of PA should be maintained and/or increased, and preferably transformed into a regular part of daily living

  • Association between Soccer Participation and Liking or Being Proficient in It

Open Access•Yibo Gao, Xiang Pan et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

Soccer participation among children and adolescents is low in China. To achieve a coordinated development of soccer in all regions and to promote the physical health of children and adolescents, this study aims to identify the influencing factors regarding the participation of children and adolescents in soccer programs through a cross-sectional analysis of the "soccer population" of children and adolescents. A total of 38,258 children and adoles…

  • A longitudinal study of handgrip strength asymmetry

Open Access•Takashi Abe, Hayao Ozaki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2022

OBJECTIVE: The previous results from cross-sectional studies indicate that there could be alterations across time in handgrip strength (HGS) asymmetry. One way to investigate this is to test the same children multiple times. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the laterality of HGS in healthy young children at two different time points separated by a year. METHODS: A total of 165 preschool children (79 males and 87 females) between the ages of 4.5 an…

  • Influence of Family Environment on the Scientific Fitness Literacy of Preschool and School Children in China

Open Access•Xiang Pan, Huan Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Scientific fitness literacy (SFL) is a holistic concept based on physical literacy but has a smaller scope and is more specific to exercise and scientific fitness. We developed an instrument to assess SFL and explored the differences and similarities in the effects of the home environment on children's SFL. Data from a nationwide stratified random sample of children were analyzed using multiple linear regression. SFL scores were significantly low…

  • Study on the Status of Scientific Fitness Literacy of Rural Left-Behind Minors and the Influence of Family Environment

Open Access•Xiang Pan, Yibo Gao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

There are a large number of 6.97 million left-behind children in China at the end of August 2018. Left-behind children exhibit many psychologically unhealthy behavioural disorders. This study aimed to compare the differences in scientific fitness literacy (SFL) between rural left-behind and general minors, and to analyze the factors affecting the SFL of left-behind minors in the family environment. A random stratified sampling was conducted among…

  • Association between Daily Physical Activity and Locomotive Syndrome in Community-Dwelling Japanese Older Adults

Open Access•Yoshihiko Ishihara, Hayao Ozaki et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

This study aimed to evaluate the association between locomotive syndrome (LS) and daily physical activity (PA) in community-dwelling older adults. This cross-sectional study included 80 healthy Japanese older adults (40 men and 40 women; age: 60-79 years). Habitual daily PA was evaluated using a triaxial wrist accelerometer. Participants were divided into two groups based on the results of the two-step test, stand-up test, and 25-question geriatr…

  • The Measurement of Strength in Children

Open Access•Hayao Ozaki, Takashi Abe et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2020

It is unclear whether the measurement of maximum muscle strength in younger children can be performed accurately due to factors such as motivation and maturity (i.e., the ability to receive instruction). If there is a large change in a ratio between muscular strength and size from the youngest to the oldest, then this might provide some indication that the youngest may not have been able to voluntarily activate their muscles for reasons mentioned…
