  • Trust behaviour of sexual minorities

Open Access•Francesco Berlingieri, Matija Kovacic et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Psychology•2026

Using a large-scale incentivized trust game experiment conducted across all 27 EU member states, we find that sexual minorities exhibit greater prosocial behaviour toward another vulnerable group but not toward an unknown counterpart, compared to heterosexual individuals. The observed effects are both relationship-and context-specific. Specifically, bisexual individuals and those identifying with a sexual orientation other than lesbian, gay, or h…

  • Private, but documented

Open Access•Elena Stepanova, Marta Sedino•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Economics•2026

This paper examines the structure of the private contemporary art market by systematically extracting and analyzing provenance records from auction sales catalogues. We document strong home-country bias and a highly concentrated and heavy-tailed distribution of gallery activity. Moreover, provenance records offer valuable insights into a liquidity premium: (a) artworks previously traded in private galleries have significantly higher returns, and …

M V Dobrovolskaya, Maria Dobrovolskaya et al.•ARTICLE•Stratum plus Archaeology and…•2025

The article presents the study results of the urn with the human cremated remains of a 40—49‐year-old man from the ground crypt 276 of Phanagoria necropolis. The urn was the last burial in the vault of this Roman time chamber. The tomb was filled with skeletons in wooden sarcophagi. The chamber contains inhumations of men, women, and children with rich grave goods, so we assume that it was a family tomb. Likely, the cremated individual was also a…

  • A century of art dealing in New York. The rise of American art

Open Access•Federico Etro, Elena Stepanova et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic History Review•2025•References: 30

We study art trade in New York between 1870 and 1970, analysing returns on investment by the renowned Knoedler gallery to shed light on the evolution of the American art market. A generalist art gallery should allocate investments to equalize expected returns, with differences in effective returns depending on purchase prices, number of traded works per artists, search costs, and shocks. We confirm these principles, finding that returns were high…

  • Divine command theory

    Open Access•Elena Stepanova, Е А Степанова•ARTICLE•St. Tikhons' University Review•2020

In the article, the problem of sources of moral authority in intellectual history associated with Christianity is observed. Among possible concepts of moral sources, namely, virtue ethics, ethics of natural law, and divine command theory, the focus is on the latter. The author describes main principles of divine command theory (DCT): it is based on the conviction that the essence of morality, i. e. the concept of good and evil, justice and injust…

  • Competing Moral Discourses in Russia

    Elena Stepanova, Е А Степанова•ARTICLE•Politics Religion & Ideology•2019•Cited by: 4

Today’s Russia is characterized by a great diversity of moral discourses expressing institutional and individual moral concepts, which come into conflict with each other over almost all socially significant issues. This research sets out to demonstrate that the intention of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) to dominate the sphere of morality highly correlates with the attempts of Russian political powers to make the Church responsible for the mor…

Steven Poelmans, Elena Stepanova et al.•BOOK•The Oxford Handbook of Work and…•2016

This chapter offers a review of neuroscientific principles and findings that inform the understanding of the intraindividual and interindividual experience of work–life conflict and enrichment. Advances in neuroscientific research have generated a better understanding of different basic processes that underlie role conflict, such as expectations, attention, multitasking, and stress. In the tradition of positive psychology we have seen a significa…

  • Art Auctions and Art Investment in the Golden Age of British Painting

Open Access•Federico Etro, Elena Stepanova et al.•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 6

We analyse the evolution of the price of paintings in London auctions with a unique data set of over 200,000 sales in the period 1780–1840. We build a price index for the representative painting through hedonic regressions controlling for the characteristics of auctions and paintings and for the artists’ fixed effects. The emergence of an efficient secondary art market was an important opportunity for portfolio diversification. Estimating a CAPM …
