  • Some Experiments with Queer Sentences

    Open Access•Walter Stolz, Walter S Stolz•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1969•Cited by: 2•References: 15

Eight sorts of sentences—true, false, contradictory, analytic, anagram, and three sorts of semi-grammatical sentences were used as experimental materials in three experiments; a rating task, a short-term memory task, and a free-recall task. Predictions of the relative degrees of " cognitive impairment " of the sentence types were derived, chiefly from a generative grammar. In general, the predictions were confirmed, with the results of the three …

  • Wage Negotiation and Bargaining Power

Pao Lun Cheng, Walter Stolz•ARTICLE•Industrial and Labor Relations…•1968

Argues that the assumption of complete knowledge does not prevent the realistic concession process in negotiation over wage rates. Assumptions in structuring the wage negotiation model; Concept of collective bargaining power; Concession process. (Abstract copyright EBSCO.)

  • A Probabilistic Procedure for Grouping Words into Phrases

    Open Access•Walter Stolz•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1965•Cited by: 3•References: 8

A procedure based on the frequency and redundancy of sequences of syntactic word-classes was devised to identify behavioural word groups, or phrases. A small sample of these phrases, derived from processing a short corpus of running text, was compared with phrases produced by immediate constituent analysis of the same text. Over 50% agreement between the two procedures was found, with a majority of the disagreements being attributable to the disp…

  • A Note on a Computer Program for Rearrangement of Matrices

    Edgar F Borgatta, Walter Stolz•ARTICLE•Sociometry•1963•Cited by: 1

  • Effects of Feedback on Oral Encoding Behaviour

    Open Access•Walter Stolz, Walter S Stolz et al.•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1963•Cited by: 1•References: 13

The effect of knowledge of performance on oral encoding facility was investigated. Subjects were placed in an oral examination situation and were provided with ostensibly authentic (but actually manipulated) evaluations of their performance while they answered questions. Dependent variables included rate and duration of various hesitation phenomena, voice loudness, and stage fright. Positive feedback was found to have a slight but facilitative ef…
