    Since the time of its registration in the British Museum's collections in 1866, the so-called "Kythnos Hoard" of Early Cycladic tools, first fully published in AJA 71 (1967), has been thought to consist of 10 items. Documentary evidence suggests, however, that only eight pieces originally came to the Museum in 1864. Scientific examination confirms that two of the 10 objects are unlikely to belong.
