Lettre à Gérard Bailloud
Boujot Christine, Cassen Serge.
Some Abstraction for a Practical Subject
This article discusses the establishment of the Neolithic in western Europe, and presents two models which integrate aspects of the Neolithic funerary structures of western France. One model presents a cyclical evolution of tombs in France, in which there is a transformation of the funerary space around the corpse (the grave itself). This includes the modification of the anatomical order of the skeleton which becomes dependent on this transformat…
Matignons et Moulin-de-Vent à Montagant/Le Brandard (Mainxe, Charente)
The ditched enclosure of Monta- gant I Le Brandard was the subject of two authorised excavations in 1979 and 1984, the results of which are listed here: pottery, lithic and fauna! material. The conclusions which are based on the stratigraphical relationships recorded in ditch I enable us to differentiate the time of its digging, attributed to an early stage of the Matignons period in Charente, from the digging of ditch II, dated to the Moulin-de-…
A pattern of evolution for the Neolithic funerary structures of the west of France
The astonishing architectural density and diversity of megalithic monuments along the coastline of the bay of Quiberon and in the gulf of Morbihan have permitted French and foreign archaeologists to establish continually improved classifications. The paper, based on the Morbihan Neolithic data, presents a coherent and dynamic evolutionary sequence of funerary structures from between 5000 and 3000 BC
