The ditched enclosure of Monta- gant I Le Brandard was the subject of two authorised excavations in 1979 and 1984, the results of which are listed here: pottery, lithic and fauna! material. The conclusions which are based on the stratigraphical relationships recorded in ditch I enable us to differentiate the time of its digging, attributed to an early stage of the Matignons period in Charente, from the digging of ditch II, dated to the Moulin-de-Vent. Cartographical analysis of sites with Peu-Richard and Moulin-de-Vent decorated pottery and the inventory of discriminant typological characters of the two types of production allow us to differentiate the two groups on the basis of unbiased elements
