Promotion of Civic Engagement with the Family Leadership Training Institute
In this efficacy study, both quantitative and qualitative data were used to gauge the effects of the Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) on civic knowledge and empowerment, civic engagement, and community health. The sample of 847 FLTI participants and 166 comparison adults completed pretest and posttest surveys. Self-Esteem and Future Orientation Predict Adolescents’ Risk Engagement
This study’s purpose was to examine the relations among future orientation, self-esteem, and later adolescent risk behaviors, and to compare two mediational models involving self-esteem versus future orientation as mediators. An ethnically diverse sample of 12- to 14-year-olds ( N = 862, 54% female, 53% ethnic minority) was assessed longitudinally. Impact of the Dare to Be You Family Support Program: Collaborative Replication in Rural Counties
Rural families often have unmet needs for services to strengthen family functioning and promote optimal youth development. This study focused on the internal dynamics of family members who experience divorce and interparental conflict. Interparental conflict and triangulating children increase the likelihood of alienating children from a parent. Relation of social support to the self-perceptions of mothers with delayed children
This study examines the relations between the type and function of support networks and the self-perceptions of 63 mothers of young, disabled children. The mothers reported significantly more instrumental as well as emotional support from informal than formal networks.
