  • Psychometric Properties of the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale With Australian Adolescent Girls

    Open Access•Colleen C Hawkins, Helen M G Watts et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2006

The psychometric properties of the Frost, Marten, Lahart, and Rosenblate Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (1990) are investigated to determine its usefulness as a measurement of perfectionism with Australian secondary school girls and to find empirical support for the existence of both healthy and unhealthy types of perfectionist students. Participants were 409 female mixed-ability students from Years 7 and 10 in two private secondary schools…

  • Path Analysis of a Theoretical Model to Describe the Relationship among Five Types of Musical Performance

Open Access•Gary E Mcpherson, Michael Bailey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Music…•1997•References: 6

Path analysis was used to test a model designed to encapsulate the flow of influences theorized to exist between five types of musical performance and four factors derived from a researcher-administered questionnaire. Results, using a sample of 101 high school wind instrumentalists, reveal major differences in the pattern of influences leading to the re-creative skill of performing a repertoire of rehearsed music for a formal music examination, c…

  • Dimensions of School Motivation

    Open Access•Dennis M Mcinerney, Kenneth E Sinclair•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1992•Cited by: 5•References: 6

This article examines Maehr's Personal Investment Model of motivation, which has clear and significant implications for cross-cultural research in education. The design and validation of the Inventory of School Motivation (1SM) based on Personal Investment Theory is described. Evidence is presented for both the usefulness of the theoretical framework and the validity of the ISM in analyzing motivational variables for individuals from different cu…

  • Cross Cultural Model Testing

    Open Access•Dennis M Mcinerney, Kenneth E Sinclair•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1991

This study was concerned with the factorial validation of the Inventory of School Motivation (ISM), an instrument based on a theory of personal investment and the possible use of derived ISM factor scales as predictors of student motivation to continue with schooling for three cultural groups (aboriginal, anglo, and migrant). Responses to the ISM from a total of 2152 Australian secondary students were subjected to principal axis factor analyses w…

  • Self-Concept and the Education of Geographically Isolated Children

    Open Access•Kenneth E Sinclair•ARTICLE•The Australian Journal of…•1983

Let me begin with the proposition that a basic need of people is to enhance and maintain their feelings of self-esteem and selfregard. Those feelings are among our most precious possessions; throughout our lives we strive to enhance that level of self-regard and we go to considerable trouble to ensure that our self-regard is not damaged in any significant way. A person's self-concept can be viewed as a store of self-perceptions; it consists of an…
