  • Ethics in the Shadow of the Holocaust: Some Review Considerations

    André Mineau•ARTICLE•The European Legacy•2007

Bruno Lamarre, André Mineau et al.•ARTICLE•Recherches sociographiques•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 3

  • Social Hygiene and the Holocaust

    André Mineau•ARTICLE•The European Legacy•2007

The twentieth century must be seen as the era of the political efficiency of biology, that is to say, of politics as bio-cybernetics. This provides the context in which a definition of social hygiene makes sense as bio-politics or as the practice of biologism through the power of politics. But the point is that social hygiene provided legitimacy to the Holocaust, insofar as it constituted an ethical framework that made sense, in some way, to a si…

  • Himmler's Ethics of Duty: A Moral Approach to the Holocaust and to Germany's Impending Defeat

    André Mineau•ARTICLE•The European Legacy•2007

Heinrich Himmler is mostly seen as the all-powerful organizer who coordinated the police apparatus that reigned over occupied Europe and who supervised personally the concentration camp system. But Himmler was also a thinker or, at least, he perceived himself as such, and he was especially concerned with moral issues. This article examines the role of ethics in Himmler's thinking. More specifically, it considers what sort of ethics it was and how…

  • The Making of the Holocaust: Ideology and Ethics in the Systems Perspective

André Mineau•BOOK•The Making of the Holocaust•1999

What made the Holocaust possible? What does it mean from a moral viewpoint? These two questions constitute the main focus of this book. Through concepts borrowed mostly from systems theory, an attempt is made at establishing a theoretical framework for a broad understanding of the genesis of the Holocaust. More specifically, the relationships between ideology, political power, and genocide are discussed, and the following topics are covered: (1) …
