Open Access•Jacklyn Jackson, Jacklyn K Jackson et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2020

Objective: To explore if better diet quality scores as a measure of adherence to the Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG) and the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) are associated with a lower incidence of hypertension and non-fatal CVD. • Celibacy and survival in court politics in the fifth century AD 1

Mark Mcevoy, Meaghan McEvoy•CHAPTER•Emperor in the Byzantine World•2019

This chapter focuses on three families: the Theodosians, the Anthemii and the Ardaburii. The reign of the emperor Theodosius II, which spanned almost the entire first half of the fifth century, is remarkable in a number of respects: in its largely unchallenged and relatively peaceful rule, its major legal codification project, and its theological entanglements. The apparent contrast in court dominance by civilian officers at the eastern court is …

  • Apriority, Necessity and the Subordinate Role of Empirical Warrant in Mathematical Knowledge

    Open Access•Mark Mcevoy•ARTICLE•Theoria•2018

In this article, I present a novel account of a priori warrant, which I then use to examine the relationship between a priori and a posteriori warrant in mathematics. According to this account of a priori warrant, the reason that a posteriori warrant is subordinate to a priori warrant in mathematics is because processes that produce a priori warrant are reliable independent of the contexts in which they are used, whereas this is not true for proc…

  • Assessment of Nutritional Status of Infants Living in Arsenic-Contaminated Areas in Bangladesh and Its Association with Arsenic Exposure

Open Access•Abul Hasnat Milton, Abul Milton et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Data is scarce on early life exposure to arsenic and its association with malnutrition during infancy. This study followed the nutritional status of a cohort of 120 infants from birth to 9 months of age in an arsenic contaminated area in Bangladesh. Anthropometric data was collected at 3, 6 and 9 months of the infant's age for nutritional assessment whereas arsenic exposure level was assessed via tube well drinking water arsenic concentration at …

    Mark Mcevoy, Meaghan McEvoy•ARTICLE•Black Camera•2018

This paper examines the office-holding, property-accumulation, and patronage of the Ardaburii, the family of the powerful eastern magister militum Fl. Ardaburius Aspar, across the course of the fifth century. It highlights the ways in which the family not only accumulated considerable wealth, influence, and property but also deployed it in traditional Roman ways, such as through civic and ecclesiastical patronage, thereby using wealth as a means …

  • Cardiovascular disease lifestyle risk factors in people with psychosis

    Open Access•Doreen Mucheru, Mary‐Claire Hanlon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Only smoking status had a significant positive association with dyslipidaemia which could indicate that there are additional factors affecting the relationship between other cardiovascular lifestyle risk factors and dyslipidaemia, hypertension and hyperglycaemia in people with psychosis. Unknown confounders and traditional lifestyle risk factors may explain the high rates of CVD in this group. Clustering of lifestyle risk factors and their demogr…

  • The Influence of Social Support on Psychological Distress in Older Persons

    Open Access•Christopher F Sharpley, Christopher Sharpley et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2015

Social support is proposed as a coping mechanism against anxiety and depression amongst older persons, but few data have examined how this occurs. This study assessed the contributions of two sub-components of social support as mediators against psychological distress-broadly defined as anxiety and depression. 1,560 men and 1,758 women from the Hunter Community Study (Australia) completed the Duke Social Support Scale and the Kessler Psychologica…

  • Child Emperor Rule in the Late Roman West, AD 367-455

Mark Mcevoy, Meaghan A McEvoy•BOOK•Child Emperor Rule In The Late…•2013

This book examines some established assumptions about the governance of the late Roman empire, about the nature and function of the imperial office, and more particularly, about the ways in which child-emperors—boys who grew to adulthood in the imperial office—came to dominate that position in the west from c.370 to 450. Beginning with a study of the nature of the different roles and functions traditionally expected in a late Roman emperor, the b…

Chapter 2 provides detailed analysis of the circumstances in which the first two western child-emperors, Gratian and Valentinian II, were acclaimed as co-Augusti. It examines the political crises which led to their accessions in 367 and 375, the different aims of the key players involved, such as the general Merobaudes, the senator Petronius Probus, and Gratian’s former tutor Ausonius. It highlights the ways in which both boys experienced a ‘phan…

The general’s many campaigns throughout the 430s and the lieutenants appointed by him are considered, along with the notable stability of the central government in Italy during this period. The continuing involvement of east Roman officials and forces in the west is highlighted, particularly in relation to the Vandal crisis in North Africa …

Romulus, so‐called Augustulus (“the little Augustus”), is commonly viewed as the last emperor of the Western Roman Empire. He was the son of the general Orestes, who had previously served as the secretary ( notarius ) of Attila the Hun in the early 450s, a position which had involved him in two embassies to the eastern imperial court at Constantinople. In 475, the western emperor Julius Nepos (who had been in power for less than a year himself) a…
