    Open Access•David Tavares, Pierre-Mathieu Le Bel et al.•ARTICLE•Area•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 18

This article considers how literary genre conditions the influence of imaginative geographies on textual representations of place and space. Focusing on a central case study, it argues that the representation of South America in Luis Sepulveda's popular travelogue Patagonia Express is the product of interplay between two competing forces: the boundaries imposed by the travelogue genre and a widely‐circulated imaginative geography of South America…

  • The representation of Mongolia in contemporary travel writing: Imaginative Geographies of a Travellers' Frontier

    David Tavares, Marc Brosseau•ARTICLE•Social & Cultural Geography•2006•Cited by: 8•References: 21

Support for this argument is derived from highlighting sets of collective, cohesive representations, performances and speaking posit…
