  • The gender gap in the care economy is larger in highly developed countries

    Open Access•Katharina Block, Maria I T Olsson et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2025

Despite the growing demand for care economy employees (e.g., nurses, teachers, and social workers), men remain underrepresented in these careers. While economically developed countries support more equal rights for women and men, their labor markets are highly gender segregated (Charles, 1992, 2003). We conducted a focused investigation of this paradoxical pattern in the care economy, testing whether gender gaps in care economy career interest ar…

  • Gender Gap in Parental Leave Intentions

    Open Access•Maria I T Olsson, Sanne Van Grootel et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 55

Despite global commitments and efforts, a gender‐based division of paid and unpaid work persists. To identify how psychological factors, national policies, and the broader sociocultural context contribute to this inequality, we assessed parental‐leave intentions in young adults (18–30 years old) planning to have children (N = 13,942; 8,880 identified as women; 5,062 identified as men) across 37 countries that varied in parental‐leave policies and…

  • Measuring family wealth among secondary school students with home possessions indicators

Open Access•Vaidas Morkevičius, Rasa Erentaite et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2022

This article investigates methodological problems of measuring family wealth among secondary school students with home possessions indicators. It employs multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) in order to explore (1) the dimensionality of home possessions items, (2) the nature of relationship between these items, and (3) the substantive meaning of the first and other relevant dimensions. It also employs regression analysis in order to study poten…

  • Interpersonal Behaviors Questionnaire (IBQ) applied to parenting of emerging adults

    Open Access•Rimantas Vosylis, Rasa Erentaite•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2022

The findings indicate that IBQ applied to parenting targets dimensions highly relevant for EAs' flourishing or impoverished functioning. Findings also offer evidence of structure and criterion validity for the IBQ applied to emerging adults' parent behaviors. As such, researchers may find IBQ attractive, as it is relatively concise yet also a holistic measure that captures the behaviors that both support and thwart an emerging adult's need for au…

  • Identity Formation Patterns and Online Activities in Adolescence

Saule Raiziene, Rasa Erentaite et al.•ARTICLE•Identity•2021

Online activities can provide a wide range of opportunities for young people in dealing with age-related transitions and developmental tasks, such as forming their identity. This study aimed to unravel the associations between adolescent identity formation and online activities, internet skills, and risks. Using a nationally representative sample of Lithuanian adolescents (N = 549, mean age 15.5 years, 46.6% girls), we examined how adolescents, w…

  • The Material Context of Adolescent Identity Formation

Rimantas Vosylis, Rasa Erentaite et al.•ARTICLE•Identity•2021

Grounded in the family stress model and recent studies on cognitive effects of poverty, the current study examines how family material conditions relate to identity-relevant information processing among adolescents via family economic strain, family financial conflicts, and parenting behaviors. Data for the study come from the first wave of a longitudinal study on the development of adolescent goals in the context of socio-economic inequalities. …

  • Linking Family Financial Socialization With Its Proximal and Distal Outcomes

    Open Access•Rimantas Vosylis, Rasa Erentaite•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2019

Financial behaviors are grounded in family financial socialization, and its effects continue well into people’s life course. However, only a handful of studies have addressed dimensionality of family financial socialization practices. Even fewer studies have investigated how different dimensions of financial socialization are linked to financial identity and distal outcomes such as financial behaviors and anxiety. To address this gap, a cross-sec…

  • Global Versus Domain-Specific Identity Processes

Open Access•Rimantas Vosylis, Rasa Erentaite et al.•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2017

The current study contributes to the ongoing discussion about validity and utility of global and domain-specific assessment of identity processes in emerging adulthood (EA) by using a three-dimensional model of identity development and examining four identity domains (best friend, education, occupation, and partner). The links between global and domain-specific identity processes and main features of EA are analyzed in the Eastern European contex…
