Ghosts of Archive: Deconstructive Intersectionality and Praxis
Ghosts of Archive draws on the discourses of deconstruction, intersectionality and archetypal psychology to mount an argument that archive is fundamentally and structurally spectral and that the work of archive is justice. Drawing on more than 20 years of the author's research on deconstruction and archive, the book posits archive as an essential resource for social justice activism and as a source, or location, of soul for individuals and commun…
Hauntology, archivy and banditry: An engagement with Derrida and Zapiro
In this article, I explore what I call 'primary spectral movements' in archive. My exploration is positioned within a framing provided by Derridean hauntology. I suggest that spectral readings of archive unfold fresh epistemologies and ontologies. Drawing on the work of scholars Jacques Derrida, Esther Peeren and Jacob Dlamini, as well as cartoonist Zapiro, I focalise particular ghosted voices and narratives in 2015 South Africa. This becomes the…

Unveiling South Africa's nuclear past
Research into South African apartheid-era nuclear weapons history has been severely hampered by longstanding secrecy laws, not to mention the destruction of most policy records. The recent declassification and release of a 1975 Defence Force memorandum recommending the acquisition of nuclear weapons, however, shows that important documents have survived. This document sheds new light on military attitudes about nuclear acquisition, and about the …
