Families and Childhood Disabilities
Research over the past 50 years has documented many social barriers encountered by parents raising disabled children including difficulties obtaining diagnoses, accessing information and services, and managing stigma. Parents are often forced to embark on an individual search for information and appropriate services and to fight for scarce resources. Toward a model of changing disability identities
In light of recent developments in the field of disability studies, this article is an attempt to update a typology of orientations to disability developed over 20 years ago.
