  • The land of make-believe: Metaphor, explanation, and fiction in Toon’s psychological world

Tamás Demeter, László Kocsis et al.•ARTICLE•Philosophical Psychology•2026

In Mind as Metaphor, Adam Toon interprets folk psychological discourse metaphorically. Based on Kendall Walton’s theory of metaphor, he argues that folk psychology ought to be understood in terms of prop-oriented make-believe that relies on representationally essential metaphors. Toon insists that this fictionalist view of everyday mental talk preserves what we commonly think folk psychology can achieve: it does not only rationalize but explains …

  • Comparing Physical Activity Levels and Metabolic Quotients to Quantify the Physical Activity Transition in Rwanda

Open Access•Alexandra R Harris, Andrew K Yegian et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2025

Objectives Although humans used to be physically active hunter‐gatherers and subsistence farmers, there has been a recent and ongoing global physical activity transition as billions of people adopt industrial lifestyles primarily in urban areas. • The liberation of nature and knowledge: A case study on Hans Reichenbach’s naturalism

    Open Access•László Kocsis, Adam Tamas Tuboly•ARTICLE•Synthese•2021•References: 45

Our main goal in this paper is to present and scrutinize Reichenbach’s own naturalism in our contemporary context, with special attention to competing versions of the concept. By exploring the idea of Reichenbach’s naturalism, we will argue that he defended a liberating, therapeutic form of naturalism , meaning that he took scientific philosophy (or philosophy of nature, Naturphilosophie ) to be a possible cure for bad old habits and traditional …
