  • Primate sociality in evolutionary context

    Open Access•Alexandra E Müller, Christophe Soligo•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2005•Cited by: 3•References: 164

Much work has been done to further our understanding of the mechanisms that underlie the diversity of primate social organizations, but none has addressed the limits to that diversity or the question of what causes species to either form or not form social networks. The fact that all living primates typically live in social networks makes it highly likely that the last common ancestor of living primates already lived in social networks, and that …

  • Aspects of social life in the fat‐tailed dwarf lemur (Cheirogaleus medius)

    Open Access•Alexandra E Müller•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1999

Body weight is an important attribute of any animal and influences its biology in many ways. In the case of the fat-tailed dwarf lemur (Cheirogaleus medius), this is of special interest because animals of this species store fat to survive extended torpor phases during the austral winter and, as a result, show extreme seasonal variation in body weight. In this paper, I present field data from a 20-month study at the Forestry Station of Ampijoroa i…
