  • Fiscal and monetary policy rules in Brazil

Tito Belchior Silva Moreira, Mário Jorge Mendonça et al.•ARTICLE•CEPAL review•2022

Based on the hypothesis that the rules of monetary and fiscal policy in Brazil may have been subject to different regimes, the present study applies the Leeper model (1991 and 2005) to identify the chronology of policy regimes in terms of their active and passive character. The policy rules are estimated using the Markov-switching model, with a monthly database from November 2002 to December 2015, in which the regimes are endogenously determined.…

  • Minority Faculty Hiring Power in Academe

Open Access•João R Faria, Jo Ão Ricardo Faria et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Black Political…•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 4

This paper investigates whether minorities in academe exercise bargaining power in a way that influences hiring of other minority faculty. We develop a stylized model that shows how minorities influence the hiring of other minorities, taking into account the hiring of majority faculty. We postulate that such behavior is similar to the behavior of insider workers in the context of the insider-outsider literature

  • Demographic Dynamics in Poor Countries

João Ricardo Faria, Jo Ão Ricardo Faria et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2012

This article analyses a Stackelberg differential game in which households' labour supply and fertility decisions are taken assuming husbands as leaders and wives as followers. The model solution yields the optimal number of children and labour supply of male and female. In equilibrium male and female labour supply increases with wage and decreases with children costs and time preference, and the optimal number of children increases with male wage…

  • Population and income

João Ricardo Faria, Jo Ão Ricardo Faria et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2006

This note presents wide evidence on the relationship between population and income for 125 countries for which data was available for the period 1950–2000. The main result is that there is a weak but negative relationship between population growth and per capita GDP, as income increases population expands at a slower rate. This relationship appears to be stronger for African countries and for Asian countries before 1970

  • The Impact of Transnational Terrorism on U.S. Foreign Direct Investment

    Open Access•Walter Enders, Adolfo Sachsida et al.•ARTICLE•Political Research Quarterly•2006•Cited by: 25•References: 11

This article investigates the extent to which transnational terrorist attacks altered U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI). Time-series intervention analysis shows that 9/11 generally had little lasting influence on U.S. FDI flows. Only a few countries that experienced subsequent terrorist attacks displayed a post-9/11 drop in U.S. FDI flows, which, except for Turkey, was not long-lived. For a panel of countries, this study also examines the effe…
