On the Demotic word “ftft” in Bodl. MS. Egypt. a 3(P), 8, 4
In this contribution, a new attempt is made to clarify the meaning of the Demotic word “ftft” in Bodl. MS. Egypt. a 3(P), 8, 4. The best solution can be obtained from the meaning ‘to sprout up’. The explanation can be supported by an equally late parallel. The subject of the action is the growth of branches or blossoms of trees, which can be understood as a symbol of fertility. The motive appears in an Osirian context

Zwei ägyptische survivals im Koptischen. Die negative Sicht auf den Hund und das Ruder als Bild für leitende Persönlichkeiten
In this contribution, two Egyptian survivals in the Coptic hagio-graphic literature are highlighted. In the first case, the bad image of the dog will be of crucial importance. The phenomenon can be demonstrated by one Coptic and three Egyptian text passages. In the second case, the rudder as metaphor for lead-ing persons is tackled.

In this contribution, a new facet of the Egyptian bird name "śnfr.w" is worked out. The only evidence for this word can be found in the tombs of HwyꜢ, IꜤḥ-mś and Mry-RꜤ at Amarna. The text there attributes black plumage to the bird as an external characteristic. The determination as a raven, which has already been proposed several times, is supported and argumentatively expanded. The beauty of the bird, which can be deduced from the name, seems t…

Einige zusätzliche Bemerkungen zum ägyptischen Wort „ ỉśḳ “ im Amduat, 7. Stunde/oberes Register
The present article seeks a new understanding of the Egyptian word “ỉśḳ” from the 7th hour / upper register of the “Amduat”. The explanation as a secondary form of “ḥśḳ” “to cut” is offered as a solution. The basis is the well-known exchange of “ỉ” and “ḥ” because of the similarity of the signs in the Hieratic. The interpretation is backed up by a parallel

In this contribution, a new explanation for one of the insects in Scene 10 of the ritual “Opening of the Mouth” is suggested. The word “ḫnś” is taken seriously and interpreted as defective writing of “ḫnmś” “midge, mosquito”. The writing can be supported by a parallel. The cause can be found in the assimilation of the “m” to “n” due to the sound change between the two consonants

In this article, the words śḫ and śḫw from the Memphis – resp. Karnak – Stela of Amenhotep II. are considered again. According to the context, the words have denoted a detail on chariots. In both cases, they are brought in relation with śḫr “tin”. The first writing goes back to the loss of r at the end of the word which is well known in other cases, too. The necessary condition for the second writing has been played by the phonetic change between…

Überlegungen zu einer ungewöhnlichen Schreibung des ägyptischen „Abnn“ – Vogels
In this article, a peculiar writing of the Egyptian “Abnn” – bird is tackled. The “Abnn” – bird belongs to those species that are unidentified until now. In oBM EA 50727, recto 2, this birdname has received the determinative of “Cow skin”, for which an explanation is searched. Needless to say, that this determinative is normally reserved for mammals. It will be shown however that, as an exception, this determinative can be used for insects, amphi…

In this article, pLansing 3, 5–8, which belongs to the class of admonitions of students, is scrutinized anew. The teacher ́s rebuke is adorned metaphorically by a comparison of the pupil with the Nile goose. The Nile goose is cast into considerably bad light. The present article attempts to verify or falsify the teacher ́s statements. As the results will show, the bird has, at least in part, been discredited unjustly. The ornithological aspects w…

In the first one, five new writings are introduced, which have been influenced by the phonetic change. In the second part, a number of plays on wo…

Zwei zusätzliche Bemerkungen zu pBerlin 15765a
In this contribution, some new thoughts concerning pBerlin 15765a are offered. In the first case, more parallels for the writing km3 for km are presented. In the second case, the defective writing tr for twr is treated adequately. A basis for a reasoned discussion of the loss of w is provided. The phrase cf n twr “knife of reed” is compared to sfd g3s “knife of rush” in the Late Egyptian “Tale of the Two Brothers.” doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.5913/…
