    Using a projective method with college students, this study assessed sex differences in the motivation to share personal concerns in a friendship context. As expected, women were found to be significantly more likely than men to imagine that they would confide worries to a friend (Intimacy Imagery).     Affiliation motivation in the literature has been conceptualized as inclusive of both intimacy and sociability needs. It is hypothesized here that the affiliative interests of males and females differ specifically in the strength of the motivation toward intimacy.     This paper takes off from Dr. John Volkman's unpublished review of the psychological climate in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University in the 1920s and 1930s. The slow changeover from an all-male faculty to a somewhat better than token number of females is described in the second part of this paper along with some references to recent developments in the area of the psychology of women.

The complete picture is presented in this note, with an analysis of variance of the Army Alpha and Beta tests in all states in 1919.
