  • Type A behavior, academic aspirations, and academic success 1

    Open Access•Christine A Ovcharchyn, Homer H Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•1981

This study investigated the link between the Type A coronary‐prone behavior pattern and attainment of success in an academic setting. First semester college freshmen were administered 3 sets of questionnaires during the course of the fall semester that were designed to assess academic activities, outside responsibilities, and importance of academic success. Indices of actual academic performance were obtained from university records. The hypothes…

  • Effects of ego-involvement conditions on attitude change to high and low credibility communicators

    Homer H Johnson, John A Scileppi•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1969•Cited by: 7•References: 1

In a 2 X 2 X 2 design, male high school students received from a high or low credibility source a communication that was either plausible or implausi-ble, and that was given under high- or low-ego-involvement conditions. Re-sults indicated greater attitude change in low-ego-involvement-high-source-credibility conditions than in the other three combinations of source credi-bility and ego involvement. These latter three combinations did not differ …

  • Relationship between authoritarianism and attitude change as a function of source credibility and type of communication

  • Individual versus triadic performance on a unidimensional complementary task as a function of initial ability level

Patrick R Laughlin, Laurence G Branch et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1969•Cited by: 9•References: 2

The hier2rchical model proposed by Laughlin, Branch, and Johnson for predicting group performance on a unidimensional complementary task by an explicit consideration of the differential relevant resources of the group me~bers was tested in a multidimensional complementary task situation with group size of three. The explicit ~enents of the unidimensional model are: {a) The unique or unshared resources of the group members of equal ability levels …

  • Effects of source credibility on the relationship between authoritarianism and attitude change

Homer H Johnson, James M Torcivia et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1968•Cited by: 3

Persuasive messages attributed to either a high credible or a low credible source were presented to Ss who varied in F Scale ("authoritarianism") scores. A significant interaction appeared between F Scale scores and source credibility with respect to attitude change, indicating the low F scorer to be more influenced by source differences than the high F scorer. These data are interpreted as supporting McGuire's general model for the relationship …

  • Group and individual performance on a single-stage task as a function of distribution of individual performance

    Open Access•Homer H Johnson, James M Torcivia•ARTICLE•Journal of Experimental Social…•1967•Cited by: 3•References: 6

  • Some Effects of Discrepancy Level on Responses to Negative Information About One's Self

    Homer H Johnson•ARTICLE•Sociometry•1966•Cited by: 6

The magnitude of discrepancy between the subjects' view of self and the view expressed by another person was systematically manipulated. Dependent variables included the subjects' use of underrecall of the discrepancy, conformity to the discrepant information, rejection of the source, rationalization, and devaluation. Findings suggest that under conditions of the experiment (with a highly involving issue and a somewhat competent source) conformit…
