Nocturnal Transgressions
This paper discusses the idiom maldī erši ... etēqu “to cross the edge of the bed of ...”, primarily known from the incantation ša maldī eršīya ītiqu , which is attested on numerous amulets and in the series Ḫulbazizi from the first millennium BCE. It examines textual evidence found in legal documents and letters from the Middle Babylonian period, where an abbreviated form of the idiom is used, implying an act of illegal sexual transgression ( ma…
A Kassite Exercise Tablet with Omens Concerning the “Yoke” of the Liver
This paper offers an editio princeps of HS 1898, a Kassite exercise tablet containing an extract with ten liver omens followed by numeric tallies with the 10u-sign. The omens duplicate the fragmentary obverse of a Neo-Babylonian nīru-compendium, the reverse of which in turn replicated omens known from the fifteenth tablet of the bārûtu-series Pān tākalti and the unedited fragment from Nineveh. The student used complicated lexical and graphical va…

Toutes les tablettes sont…
‘Next Time You Should be More Friendly!’ The Value of Social Drinking in the Babylonian Letter BM 108890
This paper presents a first edition of the Middle Babylonian letter BM 108890. The unknown author complains bitterly about the inhospitable treatment he has received. Reflective of the author’s mood is the lack of introduction and formal greeting. Since a direct reference is made to Nippur, it is likely that this tablet originates from central Babylonia

Il s’agit d’une incantation dite de la motte de terre, qui, lorsqu’elle était récitée, transférait le mal du rêve au substitut préparé rituellement, c’est-à-dire la motte de terre…
