  • Factors Affecting Juvenile Court Decisions in Israel

    Open Access•Gideon Fishman, Vered Kraus et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Inquiry•1982•Cited by: 2•References: 5

This paper investigates the factors influencing the disposition of cases in juvenile courts. The factors considered are the prior record of the offender, the nature of the offense, the recommendation of the probation officer, and the age of the offender. These four factors are essential components of the juvenile justice system and as such are perceived to be crucial for the understanding of the court's decision. A multivariate analysis of the da…

For example, (a) no mention was made of the policy of apartheid (under its various names) or of the role sociologists have played in developing that policy; (b) nor was any mention made of the contribution of sociologists in presenting alternatives to apartheid. • The issue in issue voting

    Henry Lever•ARTICLE•Politikon•1980•Cited by: 1•References: 22

The principal problem in issue voting concerns the direction of causality. The voter's thinking on an issue may be the “cause “of his voting for a particular party. Conversely, the voter's identification with a party may shape his thinking on an issue. Or it is possible that the relation between party identification and opinion on issues is spurious. The methods of analysis suggested by Blau and Goodman are combined to provide a number of tests o…

  • Ethnicity and Voting Patterns in South Africa

    Open Access•Henry Lever•ARTICLE•Political Studies•1979•Cited by: 3•References: 2

There is some controversy concerning the role of ethnicity in South African electoral behaviour. Since the society is segmented on ethnic lines it is to be expected that ethnicity would play a crucial role in affecting political choices. Some writers have gone so far as to suggest that ethnicity is the only significant factor affecting voting preferences. The controversy arose at a time when Goodman's method of log-linear analysis for hierarchica…
