  • Cross-linguistic differences in the size of the infant vowel space

    Open Access•Abdulsalam Alhaidary, Susan Rvachew•ARTICLE•Journal of Phonetics•2018•References: 51

  • Underlying manifestations of developmental phonological disorders in French-speaking pre-schoolers

    Open Access•Françoise Brosseau‐lapré, FRANÇOISE BROSSEAU-LAPRÉ et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Language•2017

This study examined the psycholinguistic profiles of Quebec French-speaking children with developmental phonological disorders (DPD). The purpose was to determine whether the endophenotypes that have been identified in English-speaking children with DPD are similarly associated with speech impairment in French-speaking children. Seventy-two children with DPD and ten children with normally developing speech, aged four to six years, received a comp…

Marie cac…

  • Speech Perception by 6‐to 8‐Month‐Olds in the Presence of Distracting Sounds

Open Access•Linda Polka, Susan Rvachew et al.•ARTICLE•Infancy•2008

The role of selective attention in infant phonetic perception was examined using a distraction masker paradigm. We compared perception of /bu/ versus /gu/ in 6‐ to 8‐month‐olds using a visual fixation procedure. Infants were habituated to multiple natural productions of 1 syllable type and then presented 4 test trials (old‐new‐old‐new). Perception of the new syllable (indexed as novelty preference) was compared across 3 groups: habituated and tes…

  • Emergence of the corner vowels in the babble produced by infants exposed to Canadian English or Canadian French

    Open Access•Susan Rvachew, Abdulsalam Alhaidary et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Phonetics•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 25

  • The Impact of Otitis Media With Effusion on Infant Phonetic Perception

    Open Access•Linda Polka, Susan Rvachew•ARTICLE•Infancy•2005

The effect of prior otitis media with effusion (OME) or current middle ear effusion (MEE) on phonetic perception was examined by testing infants' discrimination of boo and goo syllables in 2 test sessions. Middle ear function was assessed following each perception test using tympanometry. Perceptual performance was compared across 3 infant groups: (a) history-negative, infants with normal middle ear function who had never received medical treatme…
