  • The Case for the Community College

    Arthur M Cohen•ARTICLE•American Journal of Education•1990•Cited by: 1

The American public community colleges were established to accommodate the twentieth-century drive for more years of education. Located in every state, they enroll 5 million students, two-thirds of whom attend part time. Their occupational programs lead toward both immediate employment, as in clerical work, and higher-status careers, such as those in the health and engineering technologies that may require additional schooling. Their transfer fun…

  • Leadership Continuity in Problem-solving Groups: An Interactional Study

    Open Access•Arthur M Cohen, Phillip E Rosner et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•1973•Cited by: 2•References: 21

This study investigated the effects of repression-sensitization communication network change, task change, and situation change on leadership continuity. Twenty-four five-man groups, homogeneously composed of either repressers or sensitizers, participated in a wheel network, a completely-connected network, and a leaderless group discussion (LGD) setting. Before the LGD setting they received either a success, failure, or no evaluation. Represser g…

  • Discussion Patterns of Homogeneous Groups of Repressers and Sensitizers following Success and Failure

    Open Access•Richard N Carrera, Arthur M Cohen•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1968

Homogeneous groups of repressers and sensitizers were exposed to success, neutral and failure evaluations of past performance. They were then asked to perform two tasks, one work-oriented and the other interpersonally oriented. It was hypothesized that in the latter task, sensitizer groups would manifest more negative affect in verbal interaction than represser groups. The hypothesis was not supported although there were mild trends in the predic…

  • Organizational behaviors and adaptations to organizational change of sensitizer and represser problem-solving groups

    Arthur M Cohen, Joseph R Foerst•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1968•Cited by: 2

This experiment was intended to test hypotheses concerning differences between groups of sensitizers and repressers in their adaptation to organizational changes in communication networks and to changes in tasks. The results revealed that the kinds of problem-solving systems that groups developed before and after organizational and task changes were not significantly influenced by differences in sensitization-repression. It was concluded from thi…
