  • Late Quaternary formation of the Miaoli Tableland in northwest Taiwan, an interplay of tectonic uplift and fluvial processes dated by OSL

Open Access•Shih-Hung Liu, Christopher Lüthgens et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2023

The “tablelands” in Taiwan are sedimentary terraces occurring in the foreland basin west of the Neogene mountain ranges. The Miaoli Tableland consists of elevated Late Quaternary sedimentary successions, representing a change from tidal to coastal and fluvial to eolian depositional environments. The present-day morphology is a result of combined processes, including differential tectonic uplift, ongoing fluvial aggradation, and incision. Selected…

  • The timing of the Weichselian Pomeranian ice marginal position south of the Baltic Sea

Open Access•Jacob Hardt, Martina Böse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • The political potential of multi-accentuality in the exhibition title ‘gastarbajteri

Martina Böse, Brigitta Busch•ARTICLE•Journal of Language and Politics•2007•References: 6

This article explores the multi-accentuality of the sign ‘gastarbajteri’, used as title word in an exhibition on labour migration that took place in Vienna, Austria, in 2004. Based on an ethnographic study of the exhibition, it addresses a variety of readings of this word, both at the level of production and reception. The analysis of texts shows, firstly, the divergent rationales of the two agents who cooperated as exhibition producers, the mino…

  • Racism, criminalization and the development of night-time economies

Deborah Talbot, Martina Böse•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2007•Cited by: 14•References: 27

Nightlife has historically been identified as a social problem. In the contemporary context, however, this perspective competes with the promotion of the 'night-time economy' as a source of economic regeneration and extended licensing as a means to establish a more genteel 'café society'. However, these changes have concealed a reconfiguration of differentiating strategies. This article explores this neglected issue through two cases studies, one…

  • Difference and exclusion at work in the club culture economy

    Open Access•Martina Böse•ARTICLE•International Journal of Cultural…•2005•Cited by: 12•References: 7

This article explores the relationship between the construction of difference and the making of exclusion in the club culture economy. Based on ethnographic research in Manchester, it argues that the cultural practices of the consumers of a local cultural economy need to be viewed together with the practices of its producers in order to understand the interrelation of cultural differentiation and exclusion, which affects both groups. A discussion…
